VERSE TWO:
"Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."
Paul entreats God to give grace (unmerited favor) and peace to all we saints and faithful. So God gives us grace and Jesus grants us peace--His peace, not that peace which the world gives--but a peace that passes all understanding.
This peace I have been given from God since the loss of my son, Chad. While I wrestle with sadness and missing him, the Lord grants me a peace that is beyond anything I can describe. My main concern since Chad was killed in a four-wheeler accident on Mother's Day 2005, is how his death affects his two daughters. They hurt so much and miss him more than I can write. He was the center of their lives. He was one of the most devoted fathers I ever saw. He went beyond the responsibilites of most fathers. Fatherhood meant far more than provision and discipline. Fatherhood to Chad meant playing, praying and patience. He took time to involve them in each and every thing he did--from building a fence, to doing laundry. It was never work for him--it was fun. He made life a joy, he taught them that obstacles were opportunities and negatives were just a layer on the underside of positives that needed to be removed like an orange peel to get at the lucious fruit of life.
So you see...I had great concerns that the Lord had made a horrible mistake in taking my son home and leaving his children without his enduring love, abiding strength, soothing gentleness and discerning wisdom. The Lord assured me and gave me peace that He would take up the slack--that while their earthly father rested in His keeping--they would not be forsaken. EVER. And that is part of the peace, the Lord has given me as a result of faithful trust IN Christ Jesus. selahV
