As long as I can remember I loved to write. My first work of any importance to me was an essay I wrote in the seventh grade, entitled: "Why I Am Proud to Be An American." I wrote it for a competition between all the other seventh grade classes in our elementary school (I believe I competed with three classes and about 100 students). Anyway, it was an extreme honor to have the United States Marine Corp show up and present me with the medal for Americanism. I later took that essay and rewrote it for a public speaking contest in 4-H. I won first place in County and District. For a little gal who never felt very significant, this marked a major point of validation in my life at fourteen years. I qualified to go on to the state competition and won a blue ribbon there also. Little did I know that my early writing and public speaking achievements would embed a desire to write for the rest of my life.
It wasn't until 1982 that I published my first work in Decision Magazine with Billy Graham Ministries. Two years later, Decision contacted me and asked permission to publish it again in Spanish. That was such a blessing for me.
Since then I've been published in:
DECISION MAGAZINE, LIVING WITH CHILDREN, LIVING WITH TEENAGERS, SUNSHINE MAGAZINE, UPPER ROOM, DAILY MEDITATION, DAYSPRING GREETING CARDS, WESTERN RECORDER, and more.
In 1993-1994 I published and edited a Christian conservative newspaper in Owensboro, KY. I wrote nearly all of the articles and I did all the lay-out, design, distribution, sales and marketing. I had so much fun with that experience. Got to meet Congressmen, Senators, CEO's of large corporations, millionaires and wonderful everyday folk with tremendous stories that inspired and encouraged my monthly readership estimated at about 35,000. Talk about a miracle!
My educational credits are the Meade County Library, one writing class with the Assistant Editor of the Western Recorder in Kentucky, one writer's conference in Nashville, and reading numerous books on writing I purchased from Writer's Book Club. I graduated from Hartford, Connecticut Adult High School in 1967. I took various psychology, Bible and communication classes at Boyce Bible School while my husband attended there. Other than that, my writing experience has come simply from writing and experiences.
AND NOW, MY FRIENDS, YOU HAVE MY CREDENTIALS. Not very impressive, are they? I find myself believing in miracles more and more. Especially when I did a quick search through the blogs I've posted in less than two years. I've written 1,010 of them. Wow. That's a lot of gibberish, don't you think? selahV
