Last night before I went to sleep, I flipped over to the History Channel to get a bit more mesmerized by the monotone narrator. Today I turn on the "tube" and they happen to be talking about what wiped out the dinosaurs. Nematodes? Super novas? Asteroids? Comets? Saw-blade red fly infestations? My attention is piqued when the narrator says that all this gives information that we may find, "what finally made humanity." "What" not Who.
Imagine my dismay when just before they went to commercial...they say this [super novas, etc.] could all happen again to our world as we know it and wipe out the human race.
"Maybe we can learn some lessons from their [dinosaurs] mass extinction." one said. If it had not been for all these things, dinosaurs would still rule the earth, they say, and, "...the human race may never have had a chance at life."
"The truth has been elusive."
Dinosaur extinction was a probably a mixture of things, they said.
"MAYBE this is the true answer." "May have been." "Could have been." "It is possible that..."
Falling seas. Massive meteors. All these "experts" said they do not know. Either way. "If we're not ready, we are doomed to repeat history."
It's up to us, folks. We must prepare.
Mega-disasters. Comets. "We may be due for another devastating impact."
"We should be due for another comet strike within the next thousand years."
"Evidence may be found in the oceans." Reason? Well, we have more water than land, and so we haven't been able to look at those craters to determine. Yada, yada, yada. My open mind closed the door when one scientist said:
"One universal myth, was the great flood." Some Dr. Massey believes the great flood was caused by an "oceanic comet impact". He studied all the "myths" about the great flood and came up with possibilities of how the dinosaurs disappeared. "All the myths around the world may point science in the right direction to what happened in the great flood". A massive comet, three miles wide, "may have" hit the earth creating a mega-tsunami. Flooding our worlds. He suggests that "fifty percent" of the human race was wiped out.
"Mythological events are not proof"--they say. BUT...in the Indian Ocean, scientists have found proof of a comet that "could be", "might be", the "mega-comet" that caused the world to tailspin into what wiped out the dinosaurs.
Some scientists believe comets brought water. This is what we teach our children in our schools. Could have become the first cell membranes on earth. Could have. Might have. "We owe our very existence to these objects," one man said.
Okay...I'm done. On and on and on.
Man thinks man came from comets hitting the earth. Monkeys. Etcetera, etcetera.
"Could have been." Coulda, shoulda, woulda. They have all this "evidence" that is not proof of anything.
"We don't know enough about comets to be sure." Dr. someone said. Again and again, the evidence is speculation. Interesting and undeniably mind-boggling. But speculation, just the same. Occasionally the scientists talk about "Mother Nature" who causes this or that to the comet's nucleus. Has anyone met Mother Nature?
I watch my granddaughters play. I watch them giggle, chatter, and dance in the rain. I think back to when my daughter was their size. I remember when I discovered I was pregnant. Seven short months later I gave birth to this tiny little being with itty bitty fingernails, toenails, and eyelashes. I sit and stare at her tiny pink lips as she suckles her first meal at my breast. How could this be? Such sweetness. Such perfection. Such a marvelous creation of bone, skin, gland, tendon, muscle, and mostly made up of water. I cradle this little bundle of squiggly limbs and satisfied coos. I am mesmerized. I fall asleep and dream. I wake up and live life with purpose as I understand it.
Scientists do the same. They have inquisitive minds. They marvel at the layers of stones and earth. They rejoice in fossil finds. Carefully they cradle the lifeless, now hardened evidence of yesterday. They too are mesmerized. They too are amazed at what they see. Some see God's creative hand, others just see more hard "evidence" of greater "speculation". Theory.
I think if God wanted me to have evidence He'd plant it in my heart, soul and mind so deeply that it would be indisputable. Ah ha! He did. When I opened the door to Jesus and His Holy Spirit fused with my spirit, He came to stay--not to visit. He gives me the evidence of things not seen, of things I hope for. He gives me faith to trust God. Faith only wavers when I look to things of this world to assure me, protect me, amuse me, entertain me, inform and conform me. It's when I yield myself to God, and study His Word, that my faith is strengthened, deepened, renewed--that I find I do not need the answers that men seek in this world. I have the evidence I need. I need nothing else. "Truth" is not "elusive" to me. Praise God for Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Amen? selahV
