Morris Chapman, SBC Executive Committee President, wrote an article requesting prayer for the Baptist detainees in Haiti. It breaks my heart that this Christian group who wanted to help these children are being slapped with charges of child kidnapping by the Haitian government. As I read through Dr. Chapman's article in the Baptist Press, I couldn't help but wonder if this terrible situation could have been avoided if the International Mission Board had been involved in their ministry--if only in an advisory capacity--from the beginning. The SBC has so many people who know the ins and outs of regulations and laws with our Disaster Relief teams and boards, that surely, they could have helped this ministry group from facing such a situation. See Chapman's article HERE.
May God intervene and have these volunteers released soon. May His comforting spirit be with them and their families in the United States. May the children of Haiti find someone to help them through this experience. selahV
