After several days of frigid teens and twenties--with windchills of below freezing nipping our noses each time we poked them out our doors--we are having a heat wave. It's 33 degrees today in Lawton. As I shiver, shake, and hold my breath each time I go to the mailbox, I can't help but be grateful for the Global Warming of our planet. Can you imagine how cold we would be if not for this man-made blanket of Al Gore's personal jet stream around the earth? Brrrr.
Never in all my days here in southern Oklahoma have I counted the days for snow to melt. It's amazing. We still have snow leftover from the 2009 Christmas Eve Blizzard. It's January 9th!
Hubby talked to his mother yesterday. She lives in Florida, ten minutes from Tampa. Global warming delivered 28 degrees to her and the surrounding strawberry farms. Don't think I'm going to plan any strawberry shortcake parties this year. Wonder if the oranges and grapefruit will survive. Frozen orange juice is usually made after the fruit has been picked, not before. And this is the season for oranges on trees.
Oh well, there's hope. Spring is coming. And while we are all stocking our woodpiles, lighting candles and eating steaming soup, maybe a few politicians will rethink Cap and Trade legislation. Don't hold your breath, though, your lungs might freeze. selahV
