About a year ago, I had a couple of Mormons knock at my door. They came back several times, because I encouraged them to return. They had their message, and I had mine. They never returned when I shared that only Jesus was the Truth, that I wouldn't accept their message of another prophet or another book other than the Bible as true.
On Tuesday, the doorbell rang and two ladies stood on my porch when I answered the door. Each held a Bible and one held a couple of periodicals. The one with the periodicals spoke saying they were in the neighborhood sharing how the times were similar to those written in Matthew 24 and was I interested in discussing them. She offered her Watchtower magazines and I declined. But I wished God's blessings upon them.
Today the doorbell rang again, and a man stopped by to share they were having a big meeting at their church this week. They wanted to know if we were interested in starting a Bible study in our home. My husband said he wasn't interested--they do not teach the same doctrinal views that we do in the Baptist church.
Tonight our church did follow-up visits to all the hundreds of kids who came to our Vacation Bible School this past week. Many of these children have no church affiliation whatsoever. And I'm thinking.
False prophets are out and about giving away literature and seeking to persuade folks to trust teachings that do not reflect the Gospel at all. Some folks are out knocking on doors to announce Bible classes and hoping to find folks who would like to start Bible-studies in their homes to add to the church numbers by baptism.
It's vital to be going into all the world to share Jesus. It's vital to send missionaries. It's vital to be knocking on doors. And it's vital to have a caring church that reaches out beyond the walls of their buildings to visit and follow-up on people who are interested in knowing more about Jesus. I'm grateful for my church family. I'm grateful for the over 100 people who worked in Bible school this week to teach over 400 children who attended. God is working. The Spirit is moving. And so is the prince of this world. We need to be vigilant. We need to stand ready to give an answer for what we know about the Bible and the message of Christ's saving grace.
Across our cities and towns, doorbells are ringing. There are visitors knocking at the door. But can those who answer the door trust the message of those who stand on the other side? Only if the visitors carry the right message. Only if the message is Jesus--the Way, the Truth, and the Life. selahV
