Ever since I began reading SBC blogs in 2006, I've felt something missing amongst the barrage of sites that offered critiques, apologetics, and projections of everything some folks think is wrong in the SBC. I've longed to read the things which could truly impact the character of the SBC in her entirety and stir us on to good works. I've enjoyed the personal accounts of some who sprinkled them throughout their blogs. I even joined one collaborative blog for several months, launching a daily devotional subsite.
As I read the essays and online journalism attempts of some, my heart bled with sorrow on many occasions. I found it a real blessing when Tony Kummer launched SBC VOICES and have often enjoyed some of the writers I've found there. SelahV Today is not about SBC in specifics. Yet, being a Southern Baptist, I've sprinkled a few posts which focused on some of what other blogs introduced into the network. SelahV Today is whatever is on my mind and heart on any given day. I've written about everything from sour pickles to dandelions. Most often I've posted about lessons learned, thoughts provoked, and emotions stirred.
In a new site that I've been working on for months, I want to go in an entirely different direction with things than any I've seen with most blogs. SBC Enc (Encounters), will focus on positive things encountered in SBC life. It's my desire to bring bits and pieces and slices of life that exemplifies the best of the SBC. It may be as simple as someone's encouraging word in a busy hallway on Sunday morning, to the depth of a seed implanted from a pastor's sermon. It could be an event such as VBS, Disciple Now, or Angel Food ministry. I want to offer a refuge from controversy and a respite from debate. Hopefully we can have conversations with one another that build one another up and give hope.
Also, I am inviting folks to submit on speculation their ideas, drafts or outlines, or complete stories for this blog. Have something good happening in your church, school, seminary, mission field that you think should be shared? Email me. selahV
