I've known a few people who've survived electronic shocks from heavy voltage and were left with debilitating pain the rest of their lives. I've known people who've lost loved ones as a result of electricity flowing through a stream of water and up a fenceline. An irony in life is how controlled wattage can shock a flat-lined heart into vibrating life-flowing rhythm again.
A few weeks ago we learned of Dr. Tom Ascol who survived a direct hit from a lightning bolt. At first he thought he was going to be alright. Then residuals of that powerful surge which traveled through each fiber of his body surfaced with menacing strength. He was left with tremendous upheavals in sight, sound, touch and momentum.
We cannot fathom in our wildest imaginings the power of lightning, nor the sovereign supremacy of God. Yet the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is a God Who lives in perfect control of every circumstance and overrides any opposition presented. In Christ we have a Priest who understands our every infirmity, has compassion on each and every trial, and empathizes with every suffering. Knowing this we can approach the throne of grace with confidence and make intercession for the comfort, the peace and healing of brothers and sisters in Christ.
