I've been tagged by Kerri Hamilton to do a fun little tag game. I met Kerri when I prayed for her on a blog I visited. She is a pastor's wife and is processing with her husband to be a missionary in Brazil. And we've become blogging buds. If it wasn't for the fact that Kerri was so doggone sweet, I wouldn't do this. I feel like leftover Kleenex right now.
Here are the rules for what folks have dubbed a "meme":
First, you need to pick up the book nearest to you which has 123 pages or more (no cheating!) Did you see that? NO CHEATING. The book nearest you, right now as you are reading this page.
- Find page 123
- Find the first five sentences
- Post the next three sentences
- Tag five people
Unlike my friend Kerri, the Bible wasn't on top of my stack nearest me in front of my computer. Resting on top of the stack of devotional books is:
THE WIT AND WISDOM of PASTOR JOE BRUMBELOW, written by his son, David Brumbelow. It's an autographed copy and I will always treasure it because it was literally a sign from God that I keep writing when it arrived.
The book itself is filled with little stories from Joe's ministry and life. One whole chapter is written by Joe's wife, the author's mom. It's funny; it's thought provoking and it's compelling. Little vignettes of Joe's life give us all an opportunity to grasp a portion of life we might miss without his son's legacy to his dad in writing this collection of thoughts. Read it straight through or in tiny chunks at any particular time. Worth having in your library.
Adrian Rogers says of it, "David Brumbelow has done us all a favor by writing" this book. "Joe Brumbelow's ministry has been mightly used of God. A part of his effectiveness is in his spirit an wisdom."
OKAY...so here are the three sentences on the 123rd page:
"A woman that was loved by everyone in the church was affectionately called Mama Jones. She was very poor and very sick with cancer. She lived in Kashmere Gardens."
That's all I can write according to the game. But to share just a little bit more let me say, this was one of the most compelling and poignant stories David placed in the book. Oddly, by turning to the 123rd page you are almost dead center of the 240 page book.
Okay, now for the really fun part (for me anyway). I tag five people to do the same thing I just did. Here's my list: VOLFAN, Chris, Vicki, Tony, and PapaRon.
If you were tagged from the above list and are able to participate, please leave a comment so it will be easy to click on your name and read your post.
