Do You Know the Origin of Commitment?

Mark Bearden visited our church on Sunday and he shared that a man was trying to understand what Christians meant by the word commitment and so he began researching where the word "commitment" came from.  For as language evolves and we make new words, each word we have is simply a replacement for an earlier word.  Mark shared that the word commitment replaced the word surrender.  A world of difference between commiting oneself to something and surrendering all to someone, don't you think?
