Feel Like Giving Up? DON'T DO IT!

People let us down.  They fail to measure up to expectations-- to their own words and their own promises. 

We can't give up, or give in because of another's failures or twisted walk.  We must press on to the prize before us, the prize we are assured is waiting at the end of our race-- not someone else's.  We cannot run another person's race.  We can only run our own.

We must keep going. No matter the obstacle, the fiery darts, the insults, the persecution, the setbacks. We must get up and put on the whole armor we've been given. We must "trust in the Lord and lean not to our own understanding, but in all our ways we must acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths." Prov. 3:5-6

We can't trust our understanding of the craziness in the world, the challenges, the problems and trials.  We can trust God and His promises.

"Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary." Galatians 6:9

In due time.  God's time.  With his game plan. His strategy.  His intervention. His purpose.  God is in control.

So, be an overcomer.

"To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the Tree Of Life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God" Revelation 2:7

The chaos in this world is caused by sin and the master of manipulation and prince of darkness. He uses us against one another.  He is here to wear us down, oppress us and depress us.  If Satan can discourage us with things we have placed our faith in over the Lord and His power, the we have to look away from those things-- those people we have trusted in.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:1 

Don't give up.  Don't give in.  Be an overcomer.  Christ will give you rest as well as strength to meet the challenge.  "Fear not, for I am with you, even to the end of the age".~Jesus

Thank you, Jesus.

"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your loving-kindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands." Psalm 138:7-8

The Lord will accomplish and perfect that which concerns me.  The LORD.  He will accomplish it.  He parted the Red Sea and raised Jesus from the dead.  He can handle our problems. We need only rest in Him as we walk in the world and stand for justice and righteousness.  Sit down for a while if you must and rest.  Turn off the world and turn down the volume. But then stand up and be counted. Be bold and courageous. Stand in the gap and be all you can be.  And whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  ~selahV today

How Far Away Is God?

"The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them. The LORD keeps all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy." Psalm 145:17-19

We don't have to move anywhere.  We don't have to get in any particular position.  We don't even have to get all dressed up in our Sunday-best, do our nails and style our hair a certain way.  We merely need to "call upon Him".  That's it. "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."

How do we do that?  It's simple.  How do you call your spouse when you get a flat tire, run out of gas, or find out you got a great refund from the IRS?  You call unto him. 

Yesterday I wanted to go to a forum in town and was running late.  I imagined the room filled, the seats all taken, and the parking lot packed.  I was within 15 minutes of my destination and knew I was barely going to make it to the parking lot before the meeting was scheduled to begin.  "Oh, Lord, please help me out here.  Let the speaker be running late.  Let me get there in time even if I'm not on time.  Then I let go of it.  Couldn't change the clock or the miles I needed to cover in the next 15 minutes. When I got there 10 minutes late, the speaker was tardy and we had to wait.  His spokesperson came in and apologized and said he was held up for a few minutes in a radio interview.  When the speaker finally arrived ten minutes later, he explained that the radio host kept holding up the taping.

Call unto God... He hears.  He listens.  He cares.  "He will fulfill the desires of those who fear him".  And He does a whole lot more... more than we can fathom in our finite minds. 

"Call unto Me," He says, "and I will show your great and mighty things which thou knowest not."  Jeremiah 33:3

What mighty things do you need to see? healing? intervention in someone's life? help with an adversary? While you wait, watch for the little things along the way.  It will strengthen your faith to know that if He oversees the swell of tides and the sheen of the moon, He can certainly stop the sand in an hour glass.

Another Day, Another Opportunity

So here we are... another day to glorify the LORD... what will I do with today?  Will I use it up on myself?  Or will I abandon everything as an offering to the LORD?  Is it all about me, or is it all about HIM?

May the Holy Spirit help us each to discern our part in eternity today...whether we rest in utter contentment and revel in His comfort...or we agonize and partake of our Lord's sufferings--let us rest in Him.

When we fully trust in Him, we cease to struggle.  We let go and let God have His way with us.  A drowning man can be saved when he relaxes against the lifeguard, but when he struggles and fights he can take down his strongest support into the depths with him.  Panic cannot see its way free, but a mind held captive in Christ's can move mountains with faith.

"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy."    1 Peter 4:13

Psalms 7:10 says, "My defense is of God, which saveth the upright in heart."

Jesus already paid the price for our sins. Those of us who trust in Him are made righteous by Him through our faith in His death, burial, and resurrection.  

What needs defending in your life today? Can it be defended? Are you undeserving of criticism, accusation, judgment, abandonment, rejection, persecution or abuse? Take heart. Your battle is being defended in Christ. God is saving you in the hours of darkness and helpless efforts. "Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us." Romans 8:34

Can it get any better than this?  Jesus, the Savior of the World, is interceding for us at the throne of God.  Indeed, the upright in heart is being defended in God, through God and for God's glory.  Amen. selahV

I CAN DO IT MYSELF

Four-year-old Kinsey struggled to open her candybar.  I offered to open it for her, but she insisted, "I can do it."  After several tries, frustrated fingers handed me the Kit-Kat and I tore open the heavy plastic.  Kinsey saw the broken pieces of her candybar and was not happy.  "It's broken."

"Well, sometimes when we try to do things ourselves, that happens.  Next time, let Grama do it for you, okay?"  Kinsey agreed, "When I get bigger I can do it."

I smiled knowingly.  We are never too big to need help.  We are never so able that we cannot benefit from another's assistance.  With God all things are possible.  Not with age, or wisdom, or knowledge, or experience.

"I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Yes, sometimes we are able to do things ourselves.  However it is through Christ we are able to do things for God.  Through Christ--not through our efforts, our energy, our desire, our ability, our talent, our understanding, our wit, our wisdom.  Through Christ.  He makes all things possible.  Jesus.  He fills a room of hatred with love.  He lights up a darkened mind.  He tears open the veil of blindness surrounding a lost soul's eyes.  When we try to do things, relying upon our knowledge and education and logic, we often find the results as broken as Kinsey's Kit-Kat.  When we yield to Christ and pray and ask Him to move in a situation, to tear open the difficult rather than force our way in, He takes the circumstances from our extended hands of need and is able to open doors we only longed for.  selahV
