...when I trust in God and follow his instructions.
Sometimes I hit roadblocks and wonder, what is this? I'm trusting in God; I'm following His lead and trying not to deviate from what I believe He is asking of me. I stand up for truth, justice and show mercy to others. What is this blockage doing in my way?
Ever wondered why you hit a brick wall on the way to your goalposts?
It's not a fun thing. It seems to jut up in front of our face every time we think we are getting somewhere, making a dent in our debts, or reaching the final lap in a race against time. I've come to accept that sometimes those blockages are simply detours. The detour slows us down so we don't go headlong into a cavern of destruction-- a protection of sorts. So utilize these roadblocks and:
"Carefully consider the path for your feet,
and all your ways will be established." Proverbs 4:26
The unique thing about God is that He wants to take us every step of the way-- every single step-- with Him. He's not concerned with our timetable ideas or wishes. He is sovereign and has it all under control-- He knows that-- we need to know it. Life's stop signs may just be a yield-the-right-of-way. God may just slow us down, so we yield our right of way and merge with Him into His lane.
When we wait upon the Lord, HE will lift us up. When we are making our way in whatever ministry we have, whatever end we think we must attain, God is with us and wants us to keep Him ever present in our minds. Roadblocks are merely rest stations. They give us time to step back from relying on our own strength and wit, then give us time to remember Who is really in charge of the next step.
When Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem, he stopped at a well and led the woman to salvation. We have times when we are headed somewhere and God brings someone across our path that He wants us to meet. Most often we are so focused on our own goals we fail to notice others along the way. Sometimes our proverbial brick wall is simply an opportunity for us to develop stronger faith, exercise endurance and test our perseverance. Ultimately, that is what God wants for us-- stronger character, deepened spiritual condition. He reminds us:
"I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths. When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; And if you run, you will not stumble. Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life." Proverbs 4:11-12
