I took this picture of this baby robin sitting in a little Redbud tree growing next to my back patio. At first sighting, I thought it was a sparrow. It was tiny. Then I saw the little tufts of salmon-red feathers on it's belly. Bits of gray down stuck out here and there on it's body.
I was thrilled. It's silly to get excited over a baby robin, I suppose. But I think God sends His little creatures in my life for a reason. This little fella was so adorable. He just sat there on that little limb and stared off into the air. As I drew close to him, he did not flutter or move. I decided to run inside and get my camera. After I took the first picture, he seemed to lift his head as if giving me permission and inviting me to take another shot.
I took several photos of him as you can see. I was able to get my hand within two inches of him before he fluttered off the limb and onto the ground. I imagine he'd landed on my Redbud tree from his first flight from the nest. His flight to the ground was not at all graceful.
I wondered if his mom and dad were watching him. There was no going back. No matter how fearful he was. No matter how many hands came his way. His nesting days were over. He'd be on his own now. Sorta.
You see, I cannot believe the Father who placed him in my life will forget he is there. After all, He knows when one falls to earth and says he provides. So I'm sure the Lord will provide for this little Robin, just as he does the Sparrow. And me.
LORD, for all who read this thought today, I pray You still the beating of their fearful hearts. I pray you give them peace and calm in the face of threatening hands or intrusions where they rest and wait for greater strength to fly. Let them trust that they can wait upon You, oh, Father.
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
Help us Lord. Help us all to wait with great anticipation of Your answers. selahV
