Some days I get up and know exactly where I'm headed. I have my mind made up. I have my plans all laid out, schedules fixed, appointments made. Then something happens and everything gets put on hold. If I linger in the idea of the interruptions and focus on the obstacles which have inconvenienced me, my emotions can be tied in knots. Suddenly the world is at war with my desires. And if I am not careful, I can allow them to lead me onto paths I'd rather not walk.
"What leads to strife (discord and feuds) and how do conflicts (quarrels and fightings) originate among you? Do they not arise from your sensual desires that are ever warring in your bodily members?" James 4:1.
Very often we allow our own pre-empted desire, bruised ego and personal feelings to lead us to emotional outbursts. On the flipside, they can lead to an inner anger, bitterness and resentment which simmers below the surface of our talk, our walk and our witness. In time, these sensual needs are not met and we fall prey to our own emotions. We lose control. And most of us do not like to lose control. So our problems increase and are compounded--especially when another person meets us on our path and disagrees with us.
It is these times we need all the more grace from our loving Father in heaven. It is in these times we need to lean more heavily on the promise of God's presence and His sovereign control of the details in our lives. Relying on that truth and remembering it can help guide us away from strife, from quarrels, from those things unbecoming as a follower of Jesus, our Lord. selahV

It's amazing how the bible warns us of the pitfalls in life, and yet, we can still find ourselves in the pit. I'm so thankful we have a loving Father who is full of grace and forgiveness. Thank you for sharing these wise words of warning, Selah. Your devotions are always a blessing to me.
Love you.
