He wonders if he will go to heaven. He wonders if he fails in faithfulness, gets angry at God, or wavers in all he once held onto, if indeed he will still go to heaven? Is faithlessness falling short of the goal; is it a sin? Is anger a sin when held? Is doubt a sin that is bigger than God? {1 John 1:9,10) Does God take Himself away from those of whom He gave birth? {Romans 8:28) Have you been born again? {John 3:3-16) Have you been sealed with the Spirit of God until the day of His return? {2 Corinthians 1:22) What is your assurance? {2 Timothy 1:12)
John, the beloved disciple of Jesus wrote these words below so Believers could have assurance of life after death. God's Holy Spirit inspired every stroke of his pen so we can be certain of righteousness in Christ.
"I write this to you who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) the name of the Son of God [in the peculiar services and blessings conferred by Him on men], so that you may know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have life, yes, eternal life." 1 John 5:13
If you have questions about your eternal destiny, it would be a good thing to sit and read "this" that John wrote to us in 1 John. Some who come to a saving knowledge of Jesus and receive His grace, and know the reality of His forgiveness, may doubt themselves at times. Their faith. Their faithfulness. That's okay. It doesn't change God's faithfulness to His Word or His promises. Once a person is born, he cannot be unborn; once a person is born again, God holds him in His Sovereign care. Do you believe in yourself, or do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe in your own righteousness and works, or do you believe on the righteousness imparted to you by the blood of Jesus and His justification? He is the only propitiation for your sin. He is the door. He is all you need to enter into eternal life. selahV
Prayer: Lord, for those who read this I pray you give them your assurance and peace that You have done all that is needed to do for their salvation. I pray they find comfort in knowing You are preparing a place for them in heaven. May they walk with confidence in you when uncertainty attacks their thoughts. Amen
