Can you imagine wandering around for forty years in a desert without any idea of how long it will take to reach your destination? Ever feel as though the wilderness experience you are in will never end?
God is in control. He knows your needs. He provides for His own. The nation of Israel never had to replace their sandals in those forty years. They had food and water the entire time. God guided them with fire at night and a cloud by day. Yet, I can empathize. The length of their wilderness experience must have been daunting. At times, so is ours.
Can you imagine how Moses must have felt when God said, "You have roamed around this mountain country long enough; turn northward." Deut. 2:3
Such peace overflows us when we know our testings are over. Such joy floods our souls when we see our Lord open doors of promise. Moses related the heart of God to the Israelites in verse 7.
"For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing."
Sure there are times in our wilderness when we doubt, when we get discouraged. But when we look back, we can see the hand of God in every detail of our wilderness. And those details will carry us into our tomorrows--into the land of promise as we live for Him. God will carry us when we cannot walk. God is big enough to handle our discouragements and doubts. God sees the battles we fight. God does not let our enemies defeat us. God sends helpers to hold up our arms in the midst of the battle when we are too weary to go on. God knows our hearts. And His in time, we will all hear His voice, "you have roamed around this mountain country long enough," and we will move "northward" as He leads. selahV
