saith the federal judge in California. Yeah, sad. But true. It's gotta come down. "It's unconstitutional." It must be removed within 90 days.
"The cross atop Mt. Soledad — part of a veterans memorial — violates the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution, a federal judge in San Diego ruled." ~~Oliver Darcy, read more/link
For one hundred years a cross has stood upon Mount Soledad overlooking the bay in La Jolla, California. Some are offended by its presence. They believe our Founding fathers meant we should have freedom from religion rather than freedom of religion. Some fight long and hard against anything religious in this country which was founded upon religious principles. What can we say?
Perhaps they're fearful of its symbolism--the Freedom and sacrifice for which it stands? Or, perhaps it's because we Christians see it as freedom from sin and enslavement to sin. Salvation bought and paid for by the only begotten Son of God. No discrimination as we understand the Gospel. Good News for you, for me, for all. Because whosoever will confess He is Lord, Jesus will claim as His before the Father in Heaven.
Such peace in knowing that. I'm not worthy of that grace and mercy. But because Christ was worthy and righteous and sinless, He willingly paid the price for my sin and the debt I owe for my sin because the "wages of sin is death".
Sad that a cross which could give pause and peace for many who look upon it, might be so threatening to a few that they'd war against its presence and demand its removal.
I can understand their ire. I once was without knowledge of the purpose and power and glory of the cross, myself. I recall times I mocked Christians and their goody-two-shoe ways. Yeah. But no more.
Today I know the Savior who died upon one cross outside the walls of Jerusalem, in the dung-heaps of the city. He hung there and looked down upon those who spat upon him, mocked him, ridiculed, tortured and nailed Him there. But he did not complain. He looked upon them and said, "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do."
It's okay if those same kind of people who once hung Christ upon the cross at Calvary, are laughing and demanding the cross which stood for sacrifice and freedom is removed. It won't change what Jesus did over 2,000 years ago. It won't change the salvation of those who believe. And the entire United States Government can try to silence Believers, but if they do, the very stones of this earth will cry out that Jesus Christ is Lord. That Jesus Christ is King. That Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but by Him.
"They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." Isaiah 11:9
So my friends who may be growing weary from all the persecution and efforts to eradicate Christianity in every form, remember... "Fear not", Christ has "overcome the world".
