One thing I can always count on in life is the Tootsie Roll. I love Tootsie Rolls. I could sit and eat myself sick of those chocolate cheweys.
Through the multiple changes I've experienced in my lifetime of nearly 60 years, I've found that Tootsie Rolls never change.
I don't recall the first Tootsie Roll I ever ate but it tastes exactly like the one I ate today. Also, I do remember that the wrapper today is the same as the wrapper when I ate my first one. Tootsie rolls have been around since 1896. Through their lifetime, they've added numerous candies as partners. Tootsie roll-pops, midgees and even giant tootsie rolls. Tootsie-roll pops are those candy coated lollipops with the surprise chewey in the middle. Those have changed through the years. The dab of tootsie roll in the center has diminished in portion so much that it is hardly a lick anymore. So I don't like Tootsie-roll pops like I once did. I hardly ever buy them anymore; I just can't trust them to have a thing in the center of their candy.
Some faiths are like that. They've changed so much through the years that they've lost the center of what they once were. I kinda see my faith like the Tootsie Roll itself. Throughout my journey as a Christian, it has not changed. Some folks have tried to change the wrapper but other folks have stood strong and made sure it stayed the same. Why mess with a good thing? And one thing about that wrapper, you know what's inside it. It's been consistent and trustworthy.
God is like that. He's the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. Life may change, and the voices may change, but God is the same. It's so good to know when all life offers is a candy-coated lollipop, that God can be trusted to deliver true life--One Who lasts forever. selahV
