If you do this for me, then I'll do that for you. Some promises we make are contingent upon conditions. If it doesn't rain, then we'll go to the fair. If I'm not sick, I'll meet you for lunch. If you just trust me, I will pay back that loan. Conditions, when met, produce the fruit of the promise. Is God that way? I think so.
"Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out of the sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord." James 1:6,7.
God offers wisdom for the asking, but it is contingent upon faith--not whim, dreams or imaginings. I've had times when I've asked in faith and God answered. I've had times when I thought I asked in faith but was only kidding myself. God didn't answer. Evaluations of my own faith is in order whenever I approach the throne of grace. It's simpler to believe when the problem seems possible for God; it's when it seems impossible that doubt creeps in and my spirit wavers. I repent quickly when that occurs. Then I remember the Red Sea, the lions' den, and an empty tomb. selahV
